We envisioned Glasgow being the starting and ending point of a trip to the Highlands, but it ended up being one of the true highlights of our stay in Scotland, thanks to Alamo. We knew immediately than the fit was hand to glove for us -- comfortable, cozy, and situated in the perfect neighborhood for walking to fab restaurants, museums, and shops. We loved the ambience and enjoyed great breakfasts as well. Emma was the perfect hostess and we really felt like we made a new friend!Charm galore!!

The Alamo is ideally placed to offer a short walk to the Scottish Event Campus, next door to the park and round the corner to many good restaurants. The welcome we received at the hotel is the best I have had anywhere. The decor, the breakfast everything was spot on.I was slightly apprehensive as ours was one of the two rooms that only had a sink but in fact having having the choice of two shower rooms and access to a further splendidly done out bathroom this was not an issue. We unreservedly recommend this hotel and will certainly look to stay here again if we are back up in Glasgow.

Perfect location, perfect accomodations, and perfect host. Steve is an architect and the fully loaded rooms reflect his expertise. Be sure to talk with Steve about his interest in whisky and you\'ll learn a lot. I thought and thought about something negative to say, and all it could come up with is that our shower needed a soap tray.

Great room, excellent breakfast and a wonderful location just across from a park, a few steps away from the Kelvingrove Museum and convenient to many restaurants in the Kelvingrove area as well as the Hop On Hop Off bus stop to tour the entire city. Just got back from staying here for two nights with my older brother after seeing Marillion in Glasgow. From an architectural point of view, this place is wonderful. It\'s resembles an old Scottish Lairds house with all the modern conveniences you would expect. It\'s easy to find just off Sauchiehall Street near Kelvingrove and is easily served by buses and a few minutes from Glasgow City Centre by Taxi or Car. We were greeted by Steve on arrival. Steve did something that has never happened to me before and I have stayed in a few hotels. He shook our hands, asked about our trip and then showed us around the hotel before finally showing us our rooms. It is only a small hotel, but I thought this was a very nice touch. The room itself was a lovely compact room. We were only sleeping there and watching the occasional bit of TV anyway. The room we were was not en suite (most are, this one wasn\'t) but we had plenty of choices of toilet, shower and bath facilities. Lights are dimmed after 9pm, the official reason is to encourage quiet, however, because of it\'s old fashioned look, I thought it made it more homely. Bed was comfy, had no problems sleeping. Flat screen TV and a selection of 500 DVD and Blu Ray\'s from Steve\'s own personal collection if you require viewing entertainment. (There\'s snooker on, I\'m fine thanks!)Breakfast is half made to order and half buffet. This actually works great. Their breakfasts certainly set you up for the day. I\'ll be back!

The Alamo has for some years now been my guest house of choice in Glasgow. It has a wonderful mixture of comfortable luxury and a lovely and convenient location, truly a place one is always disappointed to find full. It has a loyal following and attracts many visitors from all over Europe and the US and no doubt beyond, guessing by the languages and accents I hear in the beautiful dining room in the morning. You won\'t want for entertainment technology here, if you want it, nor will you suffer if, like me, you come under the heading TROGLODYTE. There is a lovely relaxed and friendly atmosphere that greets you and continues throughout your stay. And what a fine location, with a wonderful view over the park and tennis courts to the wonderful Kelvingrove Museum, the Universitynof Glasgow\'s magnificent sepulchre looming above the trees up on its hill and within 5 minutes walk a veritable host now of interesting and good restaurants and bars. I am a frequenter of Sisters and more recently Rioja, a lovely Spanish/Catalan tapas restaurant. All are one block away in or just off Argyle St. Quietly situated off Sauciehall St, down Gray St, looking across the park, where you can always find parking if you have a car, this is one gem of a place in the midst of the great city. One to keep. You\'ll find it\'s one you\'ll always head back to.

Next, the lovely interiors, with rich colors and lovely low lighting. In the rooms themselves:super comfortable beds and en suite facilities, excellent breakfast, and helpful, kind hosts and staff. We will be back! Thanks for making our stay in Glasgow so memorable.

The owners have done a lovely job renovating the property. They were very nice and friendly, eager to help anyway they could. The breakfast buffet was nice and they offered to cook you something special if you didn\'t see what you liked on the buffet. When we booked I didn\'t realize the bathroom was not in the room, though it did have a nice sink. Still for the price it was a lovely Bed &Breakfast!

It was a pleasure to stay at the Alamo again. We stayed in one of their newly renovated rooms (room 10). It\'s a large, quiet and super comfortable room. The hosts couldn\'t be nicer and more welcome and their breakfasts could see you through the whole day! The location of the Alamo is perfect for a stay in Glasgow as we can walk to all places of interest. We look forward to our next visit!

The location cannot be better! there is parking on a wide street near a park. The design of the house is lovely and the individual room design is very pleasant, large windows, comfortable beds, all you need. The breakfast is well planned and anything that you may want for breakfast is available. We stay here twice and will book again if we have the chance to return. The owners are very friendly and accommodating.

I have a very positive opinion of this hotel after my stay. Steve is a great host and has done an incredible job of restoring the property. In keeping with the style of the house, each room is individual. Do not stay here if you want bland, purpose built uniformity, this is a place where you will get a sense of what it is like to live in Glasgow

My wife Nancy and I were visitors at the Alamo Guest House for 4 nights--Sept. 7-11.Steve the proprietor was an extraordinary host who was always available to greet guests as they enjoyed their fantastic breakfasts. The rooms are beautifully decorated with lovely antiques, and the walls covered with originalpaintings and engravings. My wife, who is a museum guide at the Delaware Art Museum, found the setting extremely pleasant and the access to local museums wonderful!Steve was also helpful in arranging dinner reservations at some of the local restaurants. We would definitely recommend this guest house and hopefully we will have an opportunity to return.

My husband, best friend, and I stayed at the Alamo Guest House for three nights and had the best time! We didn\'t get to stay in the hotel very much because we had a lot booked, but the staff couldn\'t have been nicer or more accommodating. We stayed in two different rooms, Number 4 and Number 12, and both were lovely. Everything was very clean and well kept. The first two mornings we missed breakfast due to our early tours, but my husband and I stopped on our way out Saturday and everything was delicious. We definitely want to come back to Glasgow and stay for a longer visit!

Straight away I felt at home in the Alamo Guest House. Emma welcomed me by name along with two of her sweet children. Her husband carried my rather heavy bags and, after given a quick tour of the dining room &bathroom facilities, I was promptly shown to my room. Very friendly staff and a warm welcome put me at ease in a new city where I will be living for the year to carry out studies. I HIGHLY recommend this establishment for those wishing to have a relaxing moment in a charming setting in the heart of Glasgow.

My friend and I stayed for 4 nights in July and absolutely loved the entire experience. We stayed in #3 and it was very comfortable. All the staff at Alamo were helpful and were happy to answer our questions and went out of their way to accommodate several of our unusual requests. The concierge was even able to direct us to whom to call on a Saturday morning when both myself &my friend were ill and needed medical attention.Food was great and location very convenient. If I return to Glasgow I will most definitely stay here again.

We had to leave for a 10 day cycle trip and Steve and Emma, our hosts were kind enough to store our bags for us. Great stay and we were very glad we chose the Alamo. Great location:public transportation apparently easy but we happily walked everywhere we wanted to go (only 1/2 hour to amble downtown) So wonderful to be on a huge green space and right in the restaurant district.Great room:we stayed in room 1, on the main floor right beside the breakfast room. You might think this would be noisy, but it was extremely quiet...we were always surprised when we went to breakfast and found people already there! The plaster ceilings in our room and in the breakfast room are superb (gorgeously painted by the owner Steve.)Great service:lovely breakfasts with everything but the meats and scrambled eggs made to order. Potato scones highly recommended...not like an English scone, more like a cross between and potato pancake and a green onion pancake. Delicious!

It has been beautifully restored &all the rooms are elegant, comfortable &unique. Breakfast in the dining room was convivial, relaxed &made to suit our needs. the coffee was excellent too. But it was the people who own &run the hotel that made our stay so enjoyable &memorable. Emma &Simon shared their local knowledge, gave us maps, vouchers for the hop on hop off bus, and tea in the dining room when we returned after a long day. On the last day of our stay, after I had checked out, my flight to Amsterdam was cancelled. Emma gave me access to her lap top &dining room so that I could make the necessary arrangements. But more importantly she was supportive &gave me tips on where to eat locally &less obvious places to visit. We will definitely return to Glasgow &book well in advance to ensure we can stay at the Alamo Guest House

I first stayed at the Alamo Guest House in 2011 and after a wonderful stay vowed to stay again on my next trip to Glasgow. Inexcusably it\'s taken me 5 years to visit Glasgow again, but the Alamo, I\'m relieved to say, is still wonderful. The house is an absolutely stunning Victorian house, in a fantastic and beautiful location. Steve and Emma are really friendly and welcoming, and clearly have a love affair with this beautiful house. The decor throughout is extremely stylish, sensitive to the building\'s age, tasteful but characterful. The bed was incredibly comfortable and bathroom lovely with a lovely stone sink. There is everything one could need in the room (tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, towels, wifi, tv, dvd player, and toiletries provided - shampoo, conditioner and shower gel). Breakfast options are plentiful (tea, coffee, juices, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, toast, muesli and cooked items of your choosing). Eating breakfast in the beautiful breakfast room is a real treat, and the art by Ian Gray, mainly of Islay, in this room is also fabulous. And although I didn\'t have the opportunity to sample any this time, the guest house is a few minutes walk from lovely bars and restaurants on Argyle and Sauchiehall streets. Will definitely return...I just hope it doesn\'t take me another 5 years to do so.

We are so thrilled to have found the Alamo ! Lovely places like this are thin on the ground in Glasgow , and having stumbled across it on the internet , we will most certainly be recommending it . This is a beautiful house in the vibrant west end of the city . The owners, Emma and her husband, are charming hosts and supremely welcoming. Our room was warm, the bed comfortable and the decor charming. The breakfast was excellent , with friendly, efficient service. The Alamois the opposite of corporate ....come and experience this for yourself . You won\'t be disappointed !

Another \'home from home\' experience at the Alamo. Able to stay for one night only this time but, as ever, Steve and Emma looked after us very well. Tasty breakfast with lots of choices in the lovely dining room and, despite the expected Glasgow weather for late November, the rooms were warm and cosy. Even got to catch up with Flash again (the resident cat, now a bit more sedentary, poor lad)!

Being a Scandinavian I\'m very picky with cleanliness, attention to detail &a good atmosphere. I\'ve stayed in places in the past where I didn\'t even have a shower as it didn\'t feel safe for hygiene reasons. The bathroom was cleaner than many restaurant kitchens I\'ve been in.Having had a very busy couple of months I made a stop here for the night on my way home &came home relaxed &energised.I had a very friendly &to the point welcome when arriving &, in their own words, \"Nothing is too much trouble\".Breakfast was a calm &healthy affair. They have something for everyone but less the grease &more the flavour you normally find in a British breakfast.Well worth the price &in a brilliant location.I\'ll definitely be back.

Lovely boutique luxury guest house. We stayed in the luxury suite and we wish we had time to really relax in the room as it was simply gorgeous. My wife and myself just completed a 5 night stay at the Alamo Guest House in Glasgow. We were inGlasgow to visit our son who is studying at the University of Glasgow for the fall semester.(He is an enlisted student at Centre College in Danviille, Kentucky.)We booked the Room #12 and were VERY happy with our choice of room AND the Alamo Guest House.Owners Steve and Emma as well as Victoria AND FLASH the cat made us feel very much at home, offering valuable suggestions about where to eat, tour, and visit. The breakfast was marvelous, and we were offered tea and cookies each afternoon when we returned from seeing our son.The room was very well decorated and spotlessly clean and well kept each day.The location is excellent, being close or short walking distance to any thing that we were interested in seeing or doing. The Alamo is very close to amazing restaurants (might I suggest Mother India\'s and the Butchershop---expensive but well worth the money.)Our departing flight necessitated us leaving the House at 3:00 AM.Emma was very gracious in acquiring a taxi that would be reliable in being prompt to pick us up.Not only was he very punctual, but very friendly (even if it were 3:00 AM).As we were leaving, we felt that we were leaving family members behind (NOT just our son, but Steve, Emma, Victoria AND Flash!!!!!!)If we ever return to Glasgow, there is no question as to where we will stay.

The Alamo is a such a well run guest house with a peaceful ambience and a very good breakfast. I recommend it highly. It is a family run business and the owners are friendly, accomodating, and professional. The location is next to Argyll road which has an array of restuarants and bars to chose from. Also it is only a 10 min taxi ride into town. The rooms are comfortable and i enjoyed my stay. If i visit Glasgow again i\'d stay there if possible but next time in an ensuite room with a double bed.

We were made to feel most welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room was beautifully decorated with a centre piece of a large, comfortable four-poster bed. We slept very well in what is a wonderfully peaceful location. We didn\'t have ensuite facilities, but that didn\'t prove to be a problem as we had sole use of the bathroom. Breakfast was a plentiful buffet and served in a superb room- great start to the day. Our check out had to be extremely early due to train times, but again this proved no problem;we were given access to the breakfast room and kitchen area so that we could have something to eat before a long days travelling. Our over all experience? It was like coming home!

The Alamo delivers as advertised...and more. The location right on Kelvingrove park and the lawn bowling/tennis courts was a bonus - proximity to walk everywhere to see what matters in Glasgow was fantastic.

I had never stayed in such a beautiful and luxurious room. The service was excellent. The breakfast was good (maybe not as excellent as the room and the service, but very good anyway). The location of the hotel was perfect (close to the center, to the Kelvingrove gardens and museum and to a lot of restaurants) and the surroundings were peaceful. The quality-to-price ratio was wonderful. The only slightly negative issues were the absence of a free car park and the operation of the hot and cold water in the bathroom, which was too difficult. I\'ll be more than happy to recommend your hotel to anyone going to Glasgow.

Had a wonderful stay at Alamo Guest House.Perfect location walkable to the center and near the bus stops, but also in a quiet neighborhood near the park. The house is beautiful inside and out, and I was very impressed with how they decorated each room.Add the extremely friendly and helpful owners and staff and we could not have been happier with our stay and have already recommended the Alamo guest house to others.
Reviewer:Mr. James Lucas | Thu 3rd Sep 2015
The helpful owners have created a welcoming environment which is stylish, comfortable and relaxing. Lovely breakfasts. Normal size Simple shower gel and Alberto Balsam shampoo and conditioner was provided, but the hairdryer is not powerful enough if you require it for styling. The location is great, leafy and quiet, overlooking a park with free bowls and tennis facilities. Also handily placed for the first class, yet unstuffy, Kelvingrove museum (which is also free). Short walk to bus stop for Hop On Hop Off bus tours, which I thoroughly recommend for getting your bearings and packing in the many attractions that Glasgow has to offer. Plenty of places to eat and drink within walking distance. Do check out the owners recommendations on their website and factor in that you might need to stay longer than you think to do it all justice. Enjoy!

As a single female traveling through Scotland, I stayed in Glasgow for a few extra nights, and couldn\'t have been happier with my choice of the Alamo Guest House. The Guest House was situated on a quiet side street, which was much appreciated after long days of walking. My main focus while in Glasgow was art, and as the Alamo was a SHORT distance from Kelvingrove Art Museum, I was in heaven. The rooms were clean, Steve and Emma couldn\'t have been more helpful or accommodating, and breakfast was quite filling.I would have no problems recommending this place to anyone looking to stay in Glasgow, and if I find myself in Glasgow again, I know where I will be staying!

We travelled from Canada to Scotland for a short trip to visit family for the first time. Our 6 month old did not handle the time change well, which meant the night we arrived in Scotland and stayed at this beautiful location, our daughter was screaming until 2 am.Much to our (and the other guests) appreciation, the room we booked (Room 12) was fully sound proofed which allowed the other guests to sleep undisturbed. This room is stunning, with a large soaker tub as center piece, a WC enclosed on one side, and a beautifully done shower on the other side.Along with the large bed and very high ceiling, there is a comfortable sitting area, and plenty of light from the tall windows. The buffet breakfast was delicious, the service was quite prompt and friendly. The next time we return we will be sure to stay here again!

There are plenty of places to eat nearby. One small thing to improve it would be a well lit mirror in the room. (we stayed in 4 guest houses during our holiday and this applied in them all! I\'ve lived in the Highlands for 25 years and Glasgow to me was an occasional airport and that was about it. Then, a new friend was walking the West Highland Way and suggested we meet up to see them off. She had spent 15 years living in Glasgow many years ago and suggested we stay at The Alamo. \'Everything about it is perfect apart from the name\'.So this wasmy chance to \'get\' Glasgow and I moved in for three days. Better than perfect thanks both the ambiance and the lovely staff. Vicki (y?) was just smashing. I came in fancy car but concerns about parking and security were unjustified and I found places easily outside the door.I was allowed to peep into the room my friends had chosen. Wow! That was really nice and different and when I come back with Janet we will definitely be staying in that one (and no! I won\'t tell you which one \'cos that\'s mine and it might get booked up!).I am back on Wednesday for a fleeting return. I can say that I now get Glasgow, it is lovely, and the where to stay. Actually the name is cool too. You\'ll never forget it.Chris Mair

This guest house is so good that you could not imagine a way of effecting an improvement.Everything about it, heralds both attention to detail and exemplary guest care.Location, Warm Hospitality, Classic Decor, Classy Facilities allied to Exceptional Food makes this the place to go to. After this experience of the \"Alamo\"I would be extremely disappointed to resort to alternative accommodation. Simply Excellent. John Murdo MacDonald

My wife and I stayed overnight at Alamo Guest House when we were attending an event at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery. From the moment we arrived to when we left, we could not have faulted this place. The interior was spotless and very well presented, the staff were very attentive and pleasant to deal with and the breakfast was as good as as it gets.We would stay here again even if we were attending something further away in the city centre.A short taxi journey would still work out cheaper than most city centre hotels.I would recommend Alamo Guest House to anyone and I cant wait to return some time in the near future.....and to the see the cat again!

Breakfast part buffet part cooked to order was made with high quality ingredients and cooked to perfection. Owners are very friendly and did everything possible to make my stay very enjoyable. I will return!PS - if your into Indian food, I highly recommend The Mother of India restaurant. You will need to book as it is rightly very popular.

As I approached the Alamo Guest House, I was greeted by Steve, the proprietor, who introduced himself and welcomed me and my companion. What a gracious host, lovely place, and good location for visiting the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery and the Kelvingrove Museum. The next morning he kindly arranged for taxi service to the House for an Art Lover, as well. The house, room and dining room/lounge are all beautiful. I would gladly return. My wife and I stayed at the Alamo for 3 nights in late September. The guest house is a beautiful restored Victorian located on a quiet street in Glasgow’s ‘West End’ near the Kelvingrove Museum &Art Gallery, MacKintosh House, and Glasgow University. Within easy walking distance are a number of fine restaurants, pubs, &bus stops. The city centre is a short 15 min walk. For those with a vehicle, convenient street parking is available alongside Kelvingrove Park, directly across from the house. A visitor parking permit was available to lessen the cost. Our host, Steve, was extremely friendly and welcoming and made excellent suggestions on dining, transportation, and touring options. The room itself was downstairs (below street level) with a view of the garden. It was attractively decorated and quite comfortable. Both room and ensuite bath were very clean. Very quiet for our entire stay. Breakfast was served buffet-style (nice selections) in the beautiful dining room overlooking Kelvingrove park. We hope to visit Glasgow in the future and will return to the Alamo. Highly recommended.

The rooms don\'t have en suite bathrooms, but there is a sufficient number of shared bathrooms (modern, very clean, good showers) so that was never a problem. The owners and staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly, e.g. they provide cutlery and and plates if you want touse the breakfast room to eat a takeaway dinner. Staying at the Alamo was a thoroughly enjoyable experience:the room was comfortable, the breakfast tasty (with additional options being available on request), the hosts and other staff welcoming and always cheerful and most helpful.Good (and remarkably cheap!) restaurants are only a few minutes walk away as are bus-stops for local buses and for the sightseeing tour bus.

Alamo Guest House is in a great location. It's situated on a quiet road but just around the corner from some really good restaurants and cafés and close to Kelvingrove Park and Art Gallery. It's also within easy reach of the city centre. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The house has been tastefully restored and our room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean as were the bathrooms and toilets. Breakfast was buffet style with a great assortment of cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, as well as cooked options. All in all, a very pleasant place to stay.

The Alamo was recommended to me by a friend - Ann Fitzpatrick - who had visited this year and loved it. Ideally located overlooking Kelvingrove Park, the Alamo is a gem. Friendly but unobtrusive owners and staff, lovely rooms and an overall relaxed atmosphere. I visited for 2 night with my 21 year old daughter and we both enjoyed the bars and restaurants of the West End and the easy walks through the park &to town.Great weekend break - will definitely return.

As a background, my wife and I spent two weeks traveling in Ireland and Scotland spending nearly every night in a B &B.The basics. The room and bathroom were immaculately clean. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was good with a nice assortment of fresh fruits, cereal, eggs, croissants, and anything cooked from the kitchenFrom the moment you walk in, it is clear that the owners have invested their lives and love into making this property more than an ordinary B&B.This old house has been lovingly restored to its 100 year plus grandeur.Strong proponents of greater Glasgow, they have great advice on, bars, restaurants, sites to see, and maps with directions of how to get there. The sitting room is warm and comfortable with a great view out onto the park next door.A wee nip of Steve’s collection of single malts was a fine end to a busy day of being a tourist.Barry and Kathleen Wilson

We booked Room 2 as a graduation treat (3 nights) and it was worth every penny. The hotel itself has been restored beautifully, the staff were very helpful and friendly, and the breakfasts worth every bite. The proximity to Glasgow University, restaurants and the park make it an ideal place to stay. The bathroom was also always amazing! A double size, sink into the floor circular tub, with wifi connection. I had a long bubble bath every night while watching Netflix. Perfect day to a day. I would recommend staying at the B&B again. The old hotel cat also added a certain amount of charm. The only thing missing was a bowl of sweeties by the front door :)

Our stay was extremely comfortable and very good value - the rooms are great and well appointed. I am not so keen on not having an en-suite especially as I have a prostrate problem. Having said that the shower we did use was the best I have ever been in - only wish I had something similar at home! Breakfasts were also excellent. I would say the restaurants in the area are rather pricey - it is a pity you couldn't get something a little more like a snack. But the welcome you gave us was also really marvelous - I would stay again.

The Inn is lovely and at a very convenient location in town.So nice to be able to park just outside the building next to the park. The decorating in the common rooms and on our bedroom ceiling was great. We would definitely come back again and recommend it to others. The staff was most helpful and accomodating. As we made our plans late and to have an en-suite accomodation, we had to book the biggest and most expense room.It was very nice but had way too many lights &switches. The fancy modern bath accouterments which looked like fun just didn't work well in practice. Hopefully they can add more en-suites in the future.

Terrific stay at Alamo Guest House.Gorgeous location looking out over a quiet corner of Kelvingrove Park, near Museums and a variety of great West End restaurants.Free public Tennis Courts right across the street, and they lend racquets for free(!). Glad we stayed in West End vs Downtown, easily accessible by a short cab (cabs are cheap in Glasgow) or moderate walk.Steve, the owner, was a great help and constant presence.I chose a quiet room (#7) which was handsome and clean and quiet and had a shared modern bath but I never passed anyone in the halls even though the place was full.My friend stayed in Room #10, which has private bath but is right off the dining room and the sound does carry in the morning, so I am glad I saved the money on the room with shared bath.Highly recommended.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Alamo Hotel recently and were treated with exceptional kindness and respect. The rooms are beautifully furnished and we felt like we were Royalty for the duration of our short 2 night stay. There was plenty of choice for breakfast and as much as you can manage and as they claim themselves 'nothing is too much trouble' The location of the hotel could not be better with plenty of eating establishments and museums close to hand. Parking could not have been more convenient just outside the Hotel for a nominal daily charge.I hope one day I get the opportunityto stay at the Alamo again in the future.

What a fantastic place. It has a wonderful atmosphere and the decor throught the house is a superb mix of period and modern. The view from our sumptious room was out onto Kelvingrove park with the Museum and Art Gallery beyond and Glasgow Uiversity on the hill to the right. Well placed for Restaurants and about 10 mins walk from the Hydro it really is an excellent place from where to explore Glasgow while having a great place to come back to after a day on the town. The host Steve and his wife were exceptionally helpful and pleasant people that really made you feel welcome and at home. The breakfast room is beautifully decorated and hosts a collection of paintings from the artist Ian Gray (who we met buy chance one morning over breakfast). It's not to be missed and we shall certainly return.

I cannot praise Emma and Steve highly enough for their attention to detail and huge welcome. Customer service at its best! I thought I might struggle with sharing the bathroom facilities, but I did not in the slightest. The room was very pleasant with a larger than usual flat screen tv and DVD player. Nothing is too much trouble for them. I will definitely stay again if and when I find myself back in Glasgow. Thank you.

I was very happy with my four night stay.Alamo is quiet andhomey. The Victorian building is beautiful and has been lovingly restored.Steve and Emma are friendly and helpful. My stay was during a less busy time and they upgraded me to a larger unoccupied room free of charge.Room 10 in the lower ground was cheerful and comfortable with a large flat screen, high def TV and a DVD player. There are over 400 DVDs available for use free of charge. The shared facilities were very clean.Breakfasts are made to order and the cage free eggs are from a nearby farm.I was visiting my daughter who attends the University of Glasgow.Alamo is a five minute walk from her student housing on Kelvinhaugh Street. It felt safe to walk at night.Alamo is right next to Kelvingrove Park, a good place for walkers and joggers. It has a nice playground with a skateboard section for older kids. In addition to the restaurants suggested by Alamo, The 78 pub sells vegan food and is a five minute walk from Alamo as is a Thai restaurant. The Sainsbury Local next to The 78 sells soy milk and tofu.Roots and Fruits sells organic fruits and vegetables, nice breads and prepared vegetarian foods. It is less than a ten minute walk away.I would stay at Alamo again and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who prefers a charming, quiet place.

Having stayed at the Alamo previously, I knew we were in for a treat. All of the rooms are well appointed with comfortable beds, period furniture and a modern TV and Blu-ray combination. There is an extensive library of films to choose from on DVD and Blu-ray (for those occasionss when it has to be total relaxation). The owners are very friendly and professional with a wealth of local knowledge if needed. This is an ideal place to stay for concerts at the SECC/Armadillo/Hydro as it's only a 10 minute walk away. Already looking forward to the next stay. Why not have a little luxury as opposed to faceless chain hotels?

I have stayed at the Alamo Guest House several times with and without my family and enjoyed every stay. Friendly and knowledgeable, owner Steve and his family have created an absolute gem. The common areas and accommodation of this Victorian town house have been beautifully restored and tastefully furnished with antiques. It's comfortable, clean and convenient. The breakfast, which is also excellent, is served in a beautiful room with stunning views of Kelvingrove park. It's easy to visit the city centre but in my opinion Glasgow's most adventurous restaurants and bars are to be found only a few minutes walk away on Argyle Street. I know Glasgow well and have stayed at many different guest houses and hotels there over the years. I have come to the conclusion that the Alamo is my first choice whether I'm travelling alone on business or holidaying with my family.

My girlfriend and I often stay in small guest houses and hotels in Glasgow and Edinburgh, mainly so we can go shopping, have a meal or go to the cinema, and not have to worry about travelling afterwards. This is the first time we stayed in the Alamo, we had seen it advertised before, but somehow over looked it.I am not exaggerating when I say this will now be our first choice for accommodation when staying over in Glasgow, in fact I will go as far to say that our choice of date to stay over in Glasgow will now be dependant on room availability at this guest house.First of all I made an error in my on-line booking with a well known 'last minute' agent, I called Steve at the Alamo to discuss, fearing that my booking would be unchangeable or cost me a deposit...Steve in fact rebooked me in a alternative room and advised me in detail what to do in future. Our room was beautiful, a perfect mix of antique style with all modern touches:large flat screen, digital shower, WiFi etc.The cleanliness and condition of the room was perfect, so much so that I booked a second night almost straight away. Steve kindly moved us to room 3, with its super king size bed...which was even better than room 11.The breakfast was varied and fresh - laid out nicely and the staff were very attentive to service. The décor throughout the house was beautiful, and for my girlfriend and I the finishing touch was the presence of the guest house cat, Flash.I love the west end, and this guest house is situated in the heart of it...but just tucked away enough to be free of traffic noise.I can see why Steve and his family take great pride and care in their guest house, it has a real personal feel, and is quite unique. I joked with Steve when I was leaving that I may not leave a review, as not to advertise this little gem of a hotel too much! but really this is the best 3* hotel I have ever stayed in, either in the UK or abroad.Thank you Steve and family. Best wishes, Stewart and Libby.

Alamo has a great location in Glasgow, a quiet street with parking, but close to Kelvingrove and a longish but doable walk into the city. It's also a lovely old house with super-friendly and welcoming owners. You couldn't wish for better.Remember to ask why it's called Alamo.

The Alamo is a lovely guest house full of character, we were greeted by a very helpful young lady who went out of her way to help and recommended places to eat. The room was clean and comftable, we did have a shared bathroom but as all the rooms on our floor had their own we were the only ones who used it.The location of the hotel was about 25mins walk from town (I am a slow walker) but there were plenty of bars and restaurants 2 minute walk away.Plenty of selection at breakfast. Would defo recommend.

We stayed for one night only and wished we could have stayed longer!Excellent parking, very welcoming hosts, very comfortable room (we were in room 12), wonderful breakfast. An easy 20 minute walk to the new SSE Hydro. We will definitely choose to stay here again when we next need to overnight in Glasgow.Far better value than any of the hotels, and it is in a very quiet area with easy access to art gallery, museums, concert venues and there are lots of excellent restaurants close by.The only issue (and I'm sorry I forgot to mention it at the time) was that I couldn't find a mirror near a power socket, so using the hairdrier was a bit tricky!

We had to move rooms for each of our two nights because ofprevious bookings, but nothing was too much trouble. Both lovely well decorated rooms. Not much bother the second night to use the shared bathroom facilities. Breakfast was a delight in the beautiful dining room with real FRESH fruit salad. The only time offered in our seven weeks of travelling in Europe. Friendly and helpful staff.Highly recommended.

Stayed two nights at the Alamo and we both enjoyed it very much. The room was clean, bright and quiet, with a comfortable bed. Although we had to share a bathroom, that also was kept clean, and we had a sink in our room. The breakfast meal was complete, filling and offered variety. The west end location was great and the staff at the Alamo was very informative and helpful with city suggestions. Excellent value.

Reaching Alamo Guest House through city traffic was relatively easy, we were happy with the parking space for our two motorcycles. The entourage was a pleasant surprise, my wife in particular admired the furniture. Welcome speech was pleasant, the service standard at breakfast was high. Conveniently located close to Kelvingrove Art Gallery (that we unfortunately could not visit due lack of time).

After 3 flights and 26 hrs travel time from Sydney Australia the welcome at Alamo was fantastic. A family run guest house with Steve, Emma and the kids and cat. We chose the location so we could have a days walking around Kelvingrove after our long flight. Bought the wrong power adapters for our Macs and Steve kindly loaned us one until we were able to purchase one nearby. A superb introduction to the full breakfast which kept us going until late in the day. An easy walk to Kelvin Grove gallery/museum and university nearby. A half day easy stroll will get you to the botanic gardens (both glasshouses a must see) and back via the Kelvin River walkway. You may take longer if you stop at the watering holes on the way. A wonderful start to Scottish hospitality. Thanks Steve and Emma.

My visit went well from the moment I arrived to drop off my car and luggage until the minute I left. As our first stay in Scotland, our two nights at the Alamo couldn't have been more perfect. The location was central to everything we wanted to see, the parking was convenient, the room absolutely beautiful, the amenities functioned as they should and our hosts were perfectly congenial and helpful. We slept soundly and ate well. Our only regret is not having taken advantage of the invitation to participate in the Scotch nosing that was available on our second night. Steve, his wife, and all of the staff were just lovely and very welcoming, whether when arriving after a long drive or first thing in the morning with our tiny daughter. Food was good, rooms comfortable, shared bathrooms stunning and modern, and location pretty ideal - all for a very reasonable price. There are plenty of places that would not be able to deal with a change in the number of guests and a change of date before we even arrived, but not only did Aslamo manage it, it was the start of the customer service to come.It was no more of a problem finding us space to dry out clothes having been caught out the wrong side of a thunderstorm on the first day than it was to serve breakfast, whilst the rooms were spotlessly cleaned every day. Don't let the thought that it is a "little out of town"put you off staying here. The welcome outweighs the walk!

The Alamo Guest House surpassed all of my expectations. A short walk from the bus station and easy to find, its located just on Kelvingrove park in Glasgow's beautiful west end. A family guest house, the owners have lovingly decorated to a very high standard with attention to detail. My bedroom looked better than the picture on the website which was very refreshing, very clean with a super comfortable bed, I got a great nights sleep. Breakfast was high quality and varied to any taste and the morning coffee was excellent. Overall I was very happy with my stay, great baths, great showers, very relaxed, very clean and an atmoushere of peace, I would recommend this guest house to anyone

We had a wonderful stay at Alamo Guest House. It has an excellent location, and the hosts are very nice and helpful. Just one note - rooms are different, so I would recommend to double-check if you want an en-suite accomodation and on which floor. I am sure you will enjoy your stay!

While the Alamo Guest House is in a quiet neighborhood, it is within convenient walking distance to University of Glasgow, Kelvingrove Museum, Glasgow Botanic Garden, Rennie Mackintosh House, and lots of great restaurants. Steve and Emma were very helpful and attentive. Be sure to book restaurants in advance. We got lucky with a new restaurant suggestion from Steve--the Cail Bruich -- where we ate the best meal of our trip.

Conveniently close to both Central and Queen Street stations the Alamo Guest House is a well situated next to Kelvingrove Park and the University. Emma and Steve are great hosts and their friendly, personal and informal approach was spot on. Despite being warned breakfast might be quite busy we found a table immediately and were served right away. We will definitely be staying with them on our next visit to Glasgow.

Fantastic place to stay in the West End of Glasgow right next to the Kelvingrove museum. Steve and Emma are superb hosts:they were extremely accommodating with my complicated schedule;and their care and passion for providing the best B&B experience can be seen in their stunning restoration of the Victorian architecture of the interior, excellent breakfast served, and warm and friendly service. I can't recommend the Alamo highly enough!

We had a very enjoyable in this well run Guest House at the end of June 2013. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with interesting vintage furniture. There was a good range of breakfast options and an nice relaxed atmosphere in the dining room which has attractive views over Kelvingrove Park. Our hosts were very welcoming and showed an interest in our trip. The Guest House is very handily placed for exploring the West End and for visiting Glasgow University.

It was a pure pleasure staying at the Alamo Guest House. The setting is beautiful (both the house itself and the view from the breakfast room), the owners are wonderful, and the hospitality is outstanding. Oh.. and walking distance to some great attractions and parks. There were healthy choices of food for breakfast and the owners go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. It was THE most pleasant lodging experience I have had in the whole world (and I travel frequently).

No two rooms are alike. The breakfast is excellent, with special dietary needs catered for. The location is convenient for public transport and local museums. Highly recommended.

I was lucky enough to stay in beautiful room 2 with its huge comfortable bed and slate surround basin. Every comfort has been thought of. The breakfast is an array of fresh and healthy fruit, cereals and home cooking. Very good yoghurt! Although on this occasion I was there for work, I wouldn't hesitate to stay again on a short break.

Yet again a fabulous stay at Alamo. A wonderful welcome and amazing room. We were a family of 5 and stayed in the Delux room 12. Emma and Steve were so accommodating and we were very comfortable in our suite. Breakfast was delightful and the homely atmosphere very refreshing. Thanks for a lovely stay in my home town, wonderful view and location for a Glaswegian. Highly recommended and we will stay no where else in Glasgow.

The breakfast offered a wide selection of items on an efficient self-service basis. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and the location was ideal within walking distance of the city and close to a large variety of restaurants.

Nice quiet street, but close to restaurants and shops and the bus.Made use of the wifi. We will be recommending Alamo to our friends. Thanks for the great stay.

Emma greeted us warmly after our difficult journey from overseas and she cleaned our room immediately so we could collapse and nap;then we were able to face Glasgow. It was a lovely room, a lot more elegant than we are accustomed to anywhere, but comfortable. The breakfast Steve made for us, including the porridge with soy milk we prefer, was lovely. We felt like we were taken into a family home, and indeed, having the two boys around helped with that comfort. Steve and Emma answered all our questions related to getting around Glasgow and finding what we needed. Couldn't ask for more.

I cannot recommend this lovely guesthouse enough. It is set in the heart of Glasgow overlooking Kelvingrove Park, one a quiet cobbled road. The common parts of the hotel (the reception, hall and dinning room) have been beautifully decorated and all of the original ornate plasterwork lovingly restored. There is a large windowed, warm sunny dinning room where a great home cooked breakfast (with healthy options for the faint hearted) is served. The room (3) was spacious with nice period furnishings and a really shiny clean modern shower room.I was there with my seven year old, who loved it.Lots of good affordable restaurants within a few minutes walk and a great little Sainsbury’s around the corner.A really nice, family friendly, boutique guesthouse run by a really nice friendly family.

It is always extremely pleasing when you find a place to stay away from home where genuine hospitality, pride in the environment, wonderful attention to detail, proper coffee, and good breakfast meets with the best location you could hope for on the park. This makes you feel utterly spoilt, yet thoroughly at home:comfortable, relaxed and welcomed. I cannot rate this guest house highly enough for all of this. With the added charm of a family really doing a great job with buckets of style thrown in... I say you could do no better at all than stay at the Alamo. Emma and Steve cater for all tastes I believe, and I would recommend their guesthouse to anyone visiting Glasgow in need of a place to stay. Thank you all there for a real treat.

Our son is studying at University of Glasgow and we were lucky enough to find The Alamo Guest House the first time we visited Glasgow. This time we brought our teenage sons along and one of them stayed in a triple room with us. The service is friendly, the rooms are beautifully appointed and comfortable, and the breakfast is plentiful. We look forward to coming again next year and have already chosen the next room we want to try!
